bgremove is built around a simple rule: your images are yours, and they stay on your device. This page explains exactly what happens when you use the tool.
1. Image processing
Every image you open is loaded into your browser's memory and processed locally using WebAssembly / WebGPU. No image, thumbnail, or pixel data is ever transmitted to our servers or any third party. There is no backend that receives your files.
2. AI model files
On first use, the browser downloads the open-source background removal model from a public CDN (jsDelivr / Hugging Face). After that, the model is cached by your browser and subsequent runs work without re-downloading.
3. No accounts, no tracking of your images
We do not require signup, email, or login. We do not store, view, or retain any uploaded content — because there is no upload. We have no ability to access your images.
4. Advertising & cookies
This site displays third-party advertisements (Adsterra). Ad networks may use cookies or similar technologies to serve relevant ads. These cookies are controlled by the ad provider, not by bgremove, and never have access to your images. You can block or clear cookies at any time in your browser settings.
5. Analytics
If basic, privacy-friendly analytics are used, they record aggregate page views only — never image content, file names, or personal identifiers.
6. Children's privacy
The service does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
7. Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date.

1. The service
bgremove is a free, browser-based background removal tool. All processing runs locally on your device. The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
2. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the tool for unlawful purposes, including processing images you do not have the rights to, or attempting to reverse-engineer, disrupt, or abuse the service or its dependencies.
3. Your content
You retain full ownership of every image you process. Because processing is local, we never receive, store, or claim any rights over your content.
4. Output quality
Results depend on the source image and the underlying open-source AI model. Complex edges, hair, and low-contrast subjects may require manual touch-up. No accuracy guarantee is provided.
5. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, bgremove and its author shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of the service.
6. Third-party components & advertising
The tool relies on open-source libraries (including the MIT-licensed BiRefNet-lite model via Transformers.js and onnxruntime-web) and displays third-party ads. Their respective licenses and policies apply.
7. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated at any time. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
bgremove is a free, privacy-first alternative to paid background removal services. It removes the background from any photo directly inside your browser — no upload, no account, no watermark, no credit limits.
How it works
- You choose an image (PNG, JPG or WebP, up to 25MB).
- A state-of-the-art AI segmentation model runs on your device via WebAssembly.
- The subject is separated from the background and rendered onto a transparent canvas.
- You compare before/after with a slider, optionally swap in a solid color, and download the full-resolution PNG.
